This firewater system project was a revamp focused around debottlenecking and alleviating hydraulic issues to add flow capacity by providing new tie-ins and pumps. The scope of work included all civil, structural, mechanical, process, piping, electrical, and instrumentation required to complete the project.
Our client needed a complete revamp of their existing terminal demand for the firewater system to correct deficiencies.
Alongside ensuring the new system was up to code, our team also had to make sure and work with Houston Pilots and Port of Houston Fire Department to safely locate the structure during the design phase.
Outcomes included: New firewater piping tie-ins to existing loop: 1,100’ of HDPE (SDR-9: 20”, 16”, & 8”); 200’ of A/G CS, new firewater piping tie-ins to existing loop: 200’ of HDPE (SDR-9: 20” & 16”); 200’ of A/G CS, new firewater piping tie-ins to existing loop: 900’ of HDPE (SDR-9: 16” & 8”); 600’ of A/G CS, deep excavations and shoring systems for tie-ins (12’), four new fire pumps with the flow and level control taking suction from a repurposed existing tank, two new vertical fire pumps installed on a pile-supported structure in the Houston Ship Channel, MV pole tie-in to feed a new transformer and switch rack for the electric motors, commissioning of pumps with vendor support.
